Why the range starts at 1000
A PIN is a string of digits, but this tool draws numbers, and the number 42 is not a four-digit code. Starting at 1000 means every result already has four digits. The trade-off is that codes beginning with a zero, like 0042, can never come up, which removes a tenth of the space. If leading zeros matter, draw from 0 to 9999 and pad the result yourself.
What this is and is not good for
It is fine for a door code, a meeting code, a locker, or any number someone has to read out. It is not a password generator: four digits is ten thousand possibilities, which anything automated exhausts instantly. The randomness here is cryptographic, but the space is small, and a short random code is only as safe as whatever limits how many guesses an attacker gets.
Issuing several codes at once
Handing codes to a group is one draw with repeats off, which guarantees no two people get the same code. Hand them out in the order they came. Nothing is stored here, so the list is gone when the tab closes — write it down before that.
Frequently asked questions
Can I generate a PIN with leading zeros?
Not directly. Draw from 0 to 9999 and pad shorter results with zeros, or accept that codes starting with zero will not appear.
Is a four-digit PIN secure?
Only together with a limit on attempts. Ten thousand options is nothing to a machine and a lot to a person who gets three tries.
Can it generate letters and symbols?
No, this draws numbers. A password with mixed characters needs a different generator.
Are the codes stored anywhere?
No. They are produced in your browser and never sent anywhere, which also means they cannot be recovered once the page is closed.
