Random wheel

Type one option per line, press spin, and the wheel stops on a single pick. It is useful for the kind of decision where any answer works and nobody wants to be the one who chose.

6 options on the wheel

How to use

  1. 1.Type your options in the box below the wheel, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. 2.Press spin and wait for it to stop — the slice under the pointer at the top is the result.
  3. 3.Spin again as many times as you like. Each spin is independent and ignores every previous result.

Where the randomness comes from

Each spin asks your browser for a random number through crypto.getRandomValues and discards the values that would make some slices slightly likelier than others. That correction matters whenever the number of options does not divide evenly into the generator's range: without it, the first few slices win marginally more often. Math.random would be shorter to write and good enough for a lunch pick, but not for anything you would show to someone else.

Nothing you type leaves the page

The option list lives in the browser tab and is never sent anywhere. There is no account, no saved wheel and no history, so closing the tab clears it. The benefit beyond privacy is speed: the page is static and opens immediately instead of waiting on a server.

When a wheel is not enough

A wheel is for deciding. It is not evidence. If you are giving away a prize and someone later asks whether the draw was real, a spin that happened on your screen proves nothing to them: there is no record of who was in the list, and no way to show you did not spin twice. That needs a different tool, linked at the bottom of this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the random wheel really random?

Yes. It uses the cryptographic random generator built into your browser, with the modulo bias removed, so every slice has the same chance. It does not weight slices and it does not remember earlier spins.

How many options can I put on the wheel?

There is no hard limit, but the wheel stays readable up to roughly twenty slices. Past that the colours get thin, and the random name picker is the better choice because it shows the result as text.

Can I make one option come up more often?

Not with a setting, and that is deliberate. If you want an option to be twice as likely, type it twice: two slices for the same word is exactly a doubled chance, and anyone looking at the wheel can see it.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The wheel scales to the screen width and the spin is a CSS transform, so it stays smooth on older phones too.
